Dovetail O-Ring Gland (Groove) Design

In a dovetail o-ring gland application the o-ring squeeze is primarily axial in direction, where a valve exerts force on the top and bottom of the o-rings surfaces. Typically used in static or slow moving applications the dovetail o-rings gland purpose is to properly hold the o-ring in place during machine operation. The table below lists recommended dimensions for dovetail seal glands by AS-568A o-ring dash numbers.

Dovetail O-Ring Gland Design

In a dovetail o-ring gland application the o-ring squeeze is primarily axial in direction, where a valve exerts force on the top and bottom of the o-rings surfaces. Typically used in static or slow moving applications the dovetail o-rings gland purpose is to properly hold the o-ring in place during machine operation. The table below lists recommended dimensions for dovetail seal glands by AS-568A o-ring dash numbers. There are a number of factors that should be carefully considered when designing the gland for a static crush o-ring application. The table below provides a standard set of guidelines to assist you in your design.

-The elastomer selection should directly correlate with the type of application in which the o-ring seal will be used. You can review our materials/elastomer section to examine the primary qualities of the material type under consideration.

Due to the number of interacting forces, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOUR ELASTOMER SELECTION BE RIGOROUSLY TESTED IN THE ACTUAL APPLICATION, performance assumptions must be checked so that you are certain that all variables have been carefully considered.
